New World Punx is the moniker behind trance gods Marcus Shultz and Ferry Corsten. The pair recently joined forces two years ago, adding another shattering collaboration to the EDM world. We recently had the opportunity to sit down the high-energy DJ duo, and I have to say, these two have more energy and chemistry than any other pair I have seen.

Thank you both for taking the time to sit down with us. Tell me, how did you meet? How did you come together as a group?
Ferry: We’ve been playing the same events for over 10 years, so we’ve known each other for quite some time. We never really collaborated with each other until about two years ago though. We were always hanging out, playing each other’s music at shows, so it just made sense. We were at a show together where we just kind of sent home the opening and closing acts and decided to play together.

Marcus: We just kind of said, “I’ll play, you play, lets do some back to back,” and we just ended up playing the whole time.

Ferry: It started floating around the Internet, and people started asking us to play together, so we decided to come together as a duo. It’s been fun.

How did you come up with the name “New World Punx”?
Ferry: Well, as you of course know, one of Marcus’ biggest tracks is called “The New World,” and one of my biggest tracks is called “Punk.” The nature of the music that we play is a little edgier than the usual trance-y stuff. New World Punx just makes sense to us.

You both have had so many accomplishments, both individually and together. Is there any one award that stands out to you?
Marcus: You know, I will be honest with you, I’ve never done this for awards. This is why Ferry and I clicked. We’ve always “zigged” while others “zagged.” The popular thing at the moment will be in one place, and we’ll be all the way over there. Then, all of a sudden everyone wants to be over there, so guess what, now we’re over here.

Recently, you released a song called “Memories” with vocals by Cara Salimando. Can you tell us more about the song?
Marcus: We’ve always had such amazing shows everywhere, and one of the things we said is that we really needed a song that was a proper encore, a thank you for the fans. And that is really what this song is.

Ferry: Even if you aren’t part of the EDM world, if you are a rocker, a hipster, everyone can relate this song. When you wake up at the end of a crazy night, and the sun is creeping up across your bedroom floor, you have all of these memories. Especially nowadays with all the crazy festivals and shows, everyone can relate.

What is the hardest thing for you both while on tour?
Marcus: Well, everything between Ferry and I really clicks. We get along great, but the hardest thing obstacle would be getting our individual teams together and all on the same page. But it seems like everything is working really well now.

Ferry: On the road, one of those moments that you always run into, you do wake up thinking, “Here I am again, in this hotel room,” and you miss your family and want to be home. But in the end, everything is worth it.

What was the defining moment for you in your lives that made you realize that music is what you were meant to do?
Marcus: My father was a musician, so it was always in my blood. It kind of ran in the family.

Ferry: Every since I was about eight years old I was playing around with beats, music has always been there for me, and it will never go away.

That’s amazing to hear, music is definitely our passion as well. It’s so great that you both share such a deep love of music.

What is one thing that you have to have on your rider?

Marcus: Gummy bears!

What is next for New World Punx?
Ferry: We recently came off a week of songwriting in LA, and I think we’re going to see where that will take us.

Marcus: We will be going solo for the next few months, but we have so planned. This past week especially, we worked with singers and songwriters with just an acoustic guitar in the studio and came up with some really great stuff. Listening to it on the drive through the desert yesterday we were just really blown away. We’re excited for the music that will be coming out for New World Punx soon.

Wow, that’s so exciting. Thank you so much for sitting down with us!
Ferry: Thanks so much. We enjoyed it.
