After two long, fun, and safe nights this past weekend, the fifth annual Escape: Psycho Circus came to a close under the creepily decorated night sky. The festival took place at the spacious NOS Events Center in San Bernardino County this past weekend (October 30-31), and housed almost 90,000 Headliners disguised in creative costumes. The night bragged exotic performances from tight rope-walkers, fortunetellers, and nightly burlesque shows while American Horror Story set pieces transformed the space. Haunted mazes and ominous performers (George the Giant, the Siamese Twins, the Needle Nurses, and more) terrified and amused the crowds. Fans navigated the spooky grounds complete with classic circus treats that surrounded the eerie lagoon.

I had the opportunity to talk with some Headliners who had never experienced a festival (Insomniac or any other before) and was excited to hear that they were “shocked” and “awed” by how much energy flooded out of the crowds. The Slaughterhouse megastructure returned the grounds this year, reaching 190 feet tall by 400 feet wide, 14 gigantic screens, and mind-blowing visuals accompanied by 10 astonishing lasers. The DJ booth was set in the mouth of a daunting cat/clown like creature. Acts such as Porter Robinson, who filled in for the injured DJ Snake, Above and Beyond, and Eric Prydz slayed the stage. And on Saturday, Headliners got a unique treat as Ephword had their debut performance at the main stage. Ephword is a dynamic duo consisting of DJ’s Datsik and Bais Haus; who’s music completely changes and blurs the lines of house vs. dubstep.

Get Real, Paul van Dyk, and Flux Pavilion where among some of the performances at the Ghoul’s Graveyard this past weekend, making the crowd vibes change with every beautiful beat. Deep into the madness the Cannibal’s Tea Party blasted techno from in between the spiraling Ferris Wheels, while haunting screams were heard from the sinister mazes.

Needless to say, the weekend was quite a success, something that has become extremely common at each and every Insomniac event! We can’t wait for the next one. Watch out Orlando… EDC Orlando is coming for you next.
