It is with heavy hearts that we share the saddest news: Nicholas Alvarado – also lovingly known in the music world as Pumpkin – passed away in a car crash this weekend.
Alvarado, a Los Angeles-based DJ and producer, was driving in Kerrville, Texas on March 25 when the accident occurred. Both drivers were killed.
His close friend, Sammy Bliss, posted on Pumpkin’s Facebook to share the news. “I have the unfortunate responsibility of conveying the saddest news possible. It’s with a completely broken heart that I need to let you all know that Nick died in a car accident last night in Texas, on his way to a festival,” he wrote.
Pumpkin was a well-known and inspirational figure in the conscious music festival scene, as he was a regular performer at events such as Symbiosis and Lightning in a Bottle. He was an amazing producer and live artist that constantly kept people moving with his catchy, vocally infused tracks.
Alvarado touched many hearts with his music and will be missed by many across the dance music community.
Project: Dreambox, a solar-powered video booth that allows people to record 30-second statements of their life-long dreams, goals and intentions into an HD camera, posted a tribute to Pumpkin this weekend. The video shows an interview taking place where Alvarado describes how he is living his dream. It is with high hopes now that we continue to push his dream to the limit in his memory.
