Amnesia, one of the most popular nightclubs in the world and the longest-running club in Ibiza, was raided by Spanish police over the weekend. Club owner Matt Ferrer and three others have been arrested apparently due to drug-related operations.
Armed officers arrived at 8 a.m. via helicopter with detection dogs at their side. The raid occurred only two hours after the club had closed for the morning, after Amnesia’s famed Cocoon Party for the Fourth of July.
Very little has been revealed regarding the nature of these arrests. While one news source, the El Mundo newspaper, claims the charges are drug related while another source (Resident Advisor) claims the police are working in conjunction with tax authorities.
A secrecy order has been implemented surrounding the case. Spokesman for the Guardia Civil in Majorca confirmed this in his statement: “There is an operation in progress but the court secrecy order means we won’t be making a detailed official comment today or sending out a press release.”
How the raid will affect the club’s other scheduled parties, such as Together, HYTE, Cream Ibiza, Rhythm & Waves, Marco Carola’s Music On, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’s House of Madness, People from Ibiza, Paris Hilton’s Foam & Diamonds, Espuma and Matinee is currently unknown.
