On October 21st, American-born DJ Eric Estornel, aka Maceo Plex, will be playing in Amsterdam. So what? Another DJ playing in one of the hubs of electronic music during ADE (Holland’s version of the Winter Music Conference, but on steroids) is no big deal. However, Maceo is a man full of surprises and he will not be playing in a crowded and squalid club–no, he will be playing in none other than Amsterdam’s Rijksmuseum.
You wouldn’t consider a museum that harbors priceless pieces of artwork to be the ideal location for a DJ, but the Rijksmuseum was more than welcoming to accommodate Maceo’s vision. In fact, the museum finds this to be a way to help visitors see the art in a way other than vision.
Rijksmuseum doesn’t only display art from the Dutch Golden Age, but also houses numerous classical instruments. Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Vincent van Gogh must be looking down with approval. Tickets and registration details are available here.
