Remember speakeasies? The secretive underground bars that would sell alcohol during the prohibition, that made everyone feel so excited and sneaky? Of course, alcohol is legal now and speakeasies are no more. These speakeasies have transformed into retro-style underground bars or clubs that yes, you can drink in! NYC is known for their crazy bars and five star restaurants, but many don’t know about the “low-key” bar and club scene. We’ve put together some underground, and one not so undergound, clubs that you won’t want to miss.
1. ZERO Party
ZERO Party is a party that will, for sure, keep your suspense going. This party is located all around New York. ZERO throws a variety of electronic parties throughout the year, at locations that remain unknown usually until the day of. These parties usually include themes, like mysterious masquerades or pirate-themed parties. You can find all future events by checking out their Facebook page.
BABEL is the party of the year. If you’re trying to find a unique experience, you will be sure to find it here. Located in different parts of Brooklyn, this event encourages people from all walks of life to join. You’ll find that many people are dressed up and ready to let themselves go. From masks, to bird costumes with feathers, to your average joe just trying to find a vodka and Red Bull, anyone is welcome to join. They pride themselves on their theatrical experience. 3. The Django
This top secret bar is located at the Roxy Hotel, aka The Tribeca Grand. You wouldn’t know, but you can get your groove on downstairs, below the hotel, in a venue called The Django. Visitors claim its like you’re really in the ’20s again, with brick walls, a wine cellar feel, beautiful chandeliers, and lifted curved ceilings; you’ll never want to leave. If you like finding clubs in the most random of places, this one will really surprise you! Cielo is a popular club in NYC in the Meatpacking District. You’d think “bizzare,” right? Cielo is not what you would call “underground,” but we decided to include it while we’re on the topic of good nightclubs. With a sunken dance floor, the venue is surrounded by beautiful furniture that’s decked out in brown and beige suede, with a collection of bright and colorful lighting. Sounds intriguing, right?
