Within the past couple weeks, the trap deity RL Grime blessed us with his highly anticipated Halloween mix, along with possibly one of the best collabs all year, “Waiting.” This week, he made a rare media appearance on the Australian radio show Triple J, where he revealed some interesting details about the recent collaboration with Skrillex and Australia’s very own What So Not.

We all know the played-out, festival banger “Tell Me,” which was easily one of the most popular songs of 2014. Apparently, “Waiting” was also recorded in the same studio session as “Tell Me,” two whole years ago, when RL and What So Not met up during the Australian festival Stereosonic (R.I.P.). The track was taken on and off the shelf for the past couple years, seeing some attention from Skrillex, and then was eventually finished just a couple months before its Nov. 3rd release.

RL Grime also divulged some further information on his plans for 2017, stating he was working on his sophomore album that he’s hoping he’ll get out next year. If you’ve been to one of his shows, you know he’s sitting on a cache of unreleased material, so you can count on this next album being totally stacked. RL is most known for his high-energy bangers, but if you take a look at his debut album, you’ll see that there are a handful of gems that range from drum ’n’ bass to R&B.
