Tragedy has struck Mexico’s BPM festival when a lone gunman shot and killed at least five people and injured more than 10.

The shooting took place outside of Mexico’s top nightclub, Blue Parrot, in Playa del Carmen. Blue Parrot was to host the Elrow closing party that night.

According to Police Director Rodolfo De Angel, the shooting was due to “a disagreement between people inside.” Although, rumors are floating that it was cartel related due to the high level of tourism and drugs that floated through Playa del Carmen during the BPM week.

Disturbing and graphic video footage has been posted online. One shows a crowd of people running out of the Blue Parrot. An attendee then shots “He’s got a gun!” Another video shows the inside of the club. Parts of the floor are covered in blood, attendees are shown helping the wounded.

BPM has released an official statement on the shooting this morning, saying:

“We are overcome with grief over this senseless act of violence and we are cooperating fully with local law enforcement and government officials as they continue their investigation.”

Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who attended the BPM festival last week.
