“This is not a hobby we’re not just trying to have a party.” – Young Parisians

The Art of Rap, an art and music celebration highlighting Tampa’s talent, is heading to Los Angeles on Friday, February 3rd, for its next edition.

Mike Mass, along with Beyobe, will be hosting the west coast event as both a visual artist and DJ. The two will be joined by Tampa Bay hip-hop collective Young Parisians, who recently took a similar trip to New York City. The group, who works with local Tampa companies like Black & Demin and Symphonic Distribution, have recently become a record label and are trying to promote themselves nation-wide, both as individual artists and as part of the Tampa Bay community as a whole.

Creative Loafing recently caught up with Art of Rap’s co-founder Mike Mass to discuss a little more about what will be going down at the L.A. event:

“Oh man, we’re going to do three events in L.A. One is in a private location, and on February 3 we’re doing one called “The Art of Rap.” We did one in New York; it was a mix of live art and music, and we wanted to run that same event [this time]. It’s going to be all Tampa artists plus a couple visual artists from L.A. exhibiting. The next day we are turning up with Vinny Virgo, who’ll be part of a bill that includes four Los Angeles acts and four Tampa acts — that’s how we’re going out. On Sunday, I think we’re going to go to the beach and enjoy Venice.”

Young Parisians definitely have a big weekend ahead of them, but the Art of Rap event is a must-attend for anyone interested in seeing what the Tampa Bay scene has to offer. In general, it will be an explosion of live art and music – and what better way to spend a Friday night if you really think about it?

Art of Rap Los Angeles will take place Friday, February 3rd at 9:00pm PST. RSVP here.
