Since 2012, Firefly Music Festival has been listening to their fans closer than any other festival has. Through feedback and surveys, the folks over at Firefly have been letting the people decide who the top performers will be, and it’s been a huge success. I mean, just take a look at previous years’ lineups; it’s pretty hard to be disappointed with those kind of names!
For 2017, Firefly is going to be doing something a little bit different. Instead of fans just taking part in the lineup aspect of the festival, they will be engaged in the entire thing. This means that fans will have access to various polls being conducted on the festival’s website, which include more categories! Red Frog Events’ Creative Programming Director Christiane Pheil stated,
“It won’t just live within talent anymore. We realized how much people were engaged and loving being involved in the talent portion of the event, so we were like why are we just doing this with the lineup? Why not do it with everything?”
Festivals, to me, have always been about bringing a community together. Firefly is taking it a step further by having the first ever fan-curated festival. This is a very bold move by the Delaware festival, which is one of the largest on the east coast with a capacity of around 90,000 people. As per usual with Firefly, the fans will be able to choose the performers from different genres for the event. This year, however, they will also be able to choose the merchandise, food options, and the theme of their famed pathway that connects the two parts of the festival grounds. There will also be a new bar concept to be introduced for 2017, with four options of drinking games for the fans to choose from. So far, the organizers have estimated that there will be up to 40 different polls conducted that will tailor the festival to the fans’ wants and needs.
It will be very interesting to see how this round of Firefly Music Festival will play out, but judging from the response so far, it seems like it will be a very positive experience. If you’re on the east coast this summer, consider checking out Firefly. It starts June 15th and goes until June 18th. Here’s the lineup they’ve posted so far for their 2017 run:
