Bonnaroo’s famed The Other stage will be an electronic-dominated stage this year, marketed as “A New Bonnaroo Experience.” Featuring headliners Marshmello, Big Gigantic, Yellow Claw, Louis The Child, and plenty more, this is an interesting move on the part of Bonnaroo.
The Other Tent has previously been home to artists such as Leon Bridges, Blood Orange, and Skrillex’s unforgettable 2014 SuperJam. Now, the tent is renamed as simply The Other, and will be featuring an electronic and hip-hop dominated lineup running all night.
With an undercard that features D.R.A.M., Matoma, REZZ, Ookay, and many more, this stage is bound to be an incredible experience, no matter what. At the same time, the idea of a stage which separates many of the prominent acts that can be labeled as EDM from the rest of the festival can be concerning at first. After all, many people will likely be spending just about the entire weekend at this stage, and this is an example of how often crowds are separated by genre, a common occurrence in music festival culture. However, the festival lineup’s two most well known electronic acts, Major Lazer and Flume, are set to perform at other stages.
What’s popular always changes over time and Bonnaroo is clearly putting in effort to innovate. While this might prevent some larger audiences from stopping by an act they may have otherwise not seen, a stage dedicated to electronic music is going to be incredibly convenient for EDM fans. Festival attendees are bound to have a good time at The Other, and the idea of a stage that runs all night is simply awesome.
