The Electronic Music Awards are actually, totally, seriously a thing now. Even more, it’ll take place in just three weeks.
The inaugural EM Awards and Twitter-exclusive show aims to celebrate the past 30 years of electronic music. Taking place at Willow Studios in downtown Los Angeles, the show is executive-produced by Paul Oakenfold. There will be dancing room only with no breaks, no acceptance speeches, and no typical award show shenanigans. Acts from Moby, Illenium, Goldfish, and many others are set to perform, and more are to be announced.
The nomination categories, though unconventional, make perfect sense for such a laser-focused concept. Some categories are what you’d expect: Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Record of the Year, and New Artist of Year. Other categories take an approach that would certainly come of interest, as there are nominations for Club of the Year, DJ of the Year, Live Act of the Year, Festival of the Year, and more.
Regardless of how you feel about an awards show for electronic music, the EM Awards are something you should keep an eye on. You can watch it on Twitter on Thursday, September 21st. Even better, it’s free to attend. RSVP here.
