The come-up is real.
When news broke out of Gary Richards’ departure from his company, HARD Events, the dance music industry shed a few tears. Fear not, dance music lovers. Gary Richards is making moves—and he’s not shy about sharing it.
CEO, DJ, and EDM festival pioneer Gary “Destructo” Richards is now making advances by upgrading to LiveStyle (rebranded from the formerly-bankrupt SFX Entertainment). Two days ago, a photo on Twitter showcased Electric Zoo‘s first night. Richards, known as @DestructoHARD, dropped a picture that verified his affiliation with the New York festival. Responding to a tweet sent asking if he is “running Electric Zoo”, @DestructoHARD tweets, “Yes among others. #Livestyle.” Dance music, make way for some serious uphill changes—LiveStyle is the new home to one of the top influencers in contemporary EDM culture.
Dubbed as No. 25 on Rolling Stone’s 50 Most Important People in EDM in 2015, Gary Richards’ backstory is one of a true visionary: DJ Destructo quickly climbed the ladder after founding HARD Events in 2007. The brand was so successful that Live Nation’s CEO Michael Rapino purchased HARD in 2012. Live Nation’s relationship with HARD lasted 5 years before coming to a halt last month. Despite speculation, Variety verifies amicability on the matter. “I have the utmost respect for Michael Rapino and Live Nation,” states Richards. He is now affiliated with LiveStyle.
Update: Gary Richards has been announced as President of LiveStyle North America. More information is available here.
