The multi-dexterous EDEN is a jack-of-all-trades: The 21-year-old produces, writes, and provides vocals and instrumentals for his own music. His passion and proficiency in sound dynamics is absolutely present in his productions, as he is able to easily contain and control complex elements into one, unique sound that encapsulates his artistry.
“Crash” slyly draws its listener in, transforming simple guitar picks and soft, alluring warbles into a swell of swirling sound and a static bass line. EDEN carefully allows the track to ascend, teasing us with fluttering synth and overlaying, honey-smooth female vocals.
“The intro and outro to this song are some of the oldest pieces of music on the album; they were just pieces I’d play on guitar and sing years ago,” says EDEN of the track. “For some reason, I could never find a way to make the song feel complete; nothing I put in the middle ever felt like it worked. Fast forward to 2017 while I was living in New York and late-night freestyling through the thoughts echoing round my head; suddenly everything clicked and the rest of ‘crash’ just flowed out of me. Much like the album itself, it was so cathartic to finish an idea that I had held onto for so long and to finally be in a place to translate that idea into music.”
The accompanying visuals for “Crash,” directed by EDEN’s frequent collaborators, Zhang + Knight, pair perfectly with the intense, stormy grumbles and bells present in the production. Filmed in a single-shot sequence, the video plays like a dream, trailing one’s internal escape from containment in a single, beautifully heartbreaking four-minute journey.
With no plans of slowing his swell, EDEN will release his debut album, entitled Vertigo, on January 19th, 2018, on Astralwerks. Fans can pre-order the LP here. The producer has also announced a highly anticipated world tour to promote the debut album release, with his North America leg beginning in March of next year.
