There’s something to say an artist who can turn a track you dislike into gold. Southern California native Blank has done this numerous times for me. From his incredible “Calling” remix alongside Blush, to his “Chasing Colors” and “Secrets” flips, it seems like anything that Blank touches is automatically a hit. He recently debuted “Killabite,” the first single from his upcoming Wiretaps EP and it’s a heavy-hitting dubstep slinger that shows he has a lot more coming.
Affiliated with label/collective Sola and hip-hop collective Generic., Blank experiments with various musical genres all while evolving his own sound. His productions explore house, trap, dubstep, future bass, rap/hip-hop and even electro-pop styles. Blank has amassed over 400,000 collective streams and has had his productions played out all over the world by artists like The Chainsmokers, Zeds Dead, Ookay, MAKJ, NGHTMRE, SLANDER, BONNIE X CLYDE & more.
We chatted with the buzzing artist to discuss how he got into music, what he has in the works and more. He delivered an incredible guest mix full of unreleased music from him and his friends, including heavy bass tunes, feel-good hits and everything in between. Check it all out below!
Hey! Thanks for chatting with us. What made you initially get into music production?
Thanks for having me! I actually started as a DJ back when I was like 16 (I’m 22 now) I was just a kid on youtube looking for new music to bump, found some hardstyle tracks and never heard any of those sounds before. Instantly got hooked on the energy. I found more electronic music like Avicii & Swedish House Mafia not too long after.. that was the big turning point for my taste in music. Dug deeper into the scene and saw what DJs were doing with their live sets so a good friend of mine and I decided to just try it as a hobby & split a turntable setup 50/50. (Shout outs RSCue.) A couple of years into deejaying I realized that I wanted to make the music I was spinning, that’s when I started to really get into production.
Some of your releases have amassed over 100,000 streams. Where did you learn to produce and how long did it take before you were really comfortable with your sound?
I learned everything I know from home. Some YouTube videos here and there are so good, but I definitely I got the most out of trial & error. Back when I was first starting I really wanted to go to some music schools but I couldn’t afford it. Figured I should just save some cash for a computer that would last, learn what I could & just see where it all goes from there. I’ve only been at it for like 3 years and some change so I wouldn’t say that I’m 100% comfortable with my sound just yet, but definitely happy with where it’s headed! I’m still experimenting/learning & there’s always room to grow.
Who are some of your biggest influences?
Skrillex, Diplo, graves, Boombox Cartel, Adventure Club, SHM, Avicii to name a few, I’m always influenced by any artist making waves or taking charge of multiple projects.
You live just outside of the ground where Coachella takes place. What’s that like for inspiration?
It’s inspiring, but it can get bittersweet sometimes ’cause I’m not on the other side of the decks yet. It definitely keeps me motivated to just grind until I get there. It’ll happen one day, you heard it here first lol.
You’re also a part of California hip-hop collective Generic. Can you tell us more about it and your role with the group?
Yeah, I’m so stoked on all the music we’re dropping/ have in the vault! We’re a group of 7 that came together summer of 16’ we’re all from the same area and half of us were already friends so it makes working with each other really easy. We’ve been doing everything in-house for our ‘Space Juice’ album series & it’s crazy to see the growth going back & listening to Vol. 1 vs the Vol. 2 singles that are out right now.
Andre: Santi Vocals, Production, Creative Direction
Blank: I mainly do management stuff with Javier, but I’m also the DJ for live shows & help out with production, audio engineering & creative direction.

Are there any artists or labels you’d love to work with in the future?
There are honestly way too many artists for me to name right now, but a big goal for me this year is to work & put out a ton of music with friends! I’m a huge fan of labels like OWSLA, Bit Bird, Jadu Dala, & Good Enuff that are always pushing the coolest music so I’d love to work with them one day.
What are some of your hobbies outside of music?
Lately Fortnite has been the move lol (Add me on Xbox iplayblank). But I like traveling, playing sports, & chillin, havin quality time with family and friends.
Last, but not least, what will we be hearing in your mix below?
Really excited to be playing a ton of my favorite tracks and some really crazy IDs by some friends of mine. Also have some of my flips + unreleased in here so definitely keep an ear out for those!
