The past few years have shaken the music community as well as the general public due to devastating mass shootings and terrorist attacks on innocent people.
Our community remains heartbroken after Steven Paddock’s attack on Route 91 Music Festival in Las Vegas. Videos of crowds running for their lives shook my world, as I’m sure they shook yours. We banded together, supporting one another and not allowing the actions of a terrorist affect our beliefs.
This was not the first attack on innocent lives. Orlando’s nightclub, Pulse, was turned into a mass murder site after Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old security guard, opened fire into the crowd.
Another 22 lives were lost at an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester in 2017 after a suicide bomber infiltrated the arena.
When Ultra Music Festival, a three-day event with multiple vantage points from high rise buildings, went off without a hitch, it was a massive victory for both law enforcement and the festival community.
Local police in Miami worked tirelessly to ensure the safety of the public, including placing counter snipers in strategic locations and utilizing police helicopters. Reports were made that there was a possible terrorist taken in custody after serious threats were made.
Coachella Music Festival in Indio, California will take place across two major weekends in April. Local police and EMS providers in the area have decided to increase security and stock up on medical supplies in case an attack occurs. There are multiple security measures in place now that have never been incorporated before, including the use of drones. Our community will once again band together to enjoy the musical talents of big-name artists and share the musical oasis of Coachella as we fight to escape the realities of day-to-day life. While we cannot always predict the actions of those around us, we can help local authorities by complying with all of their requests and submitting to screening and security protocols as instructed.
Coachella Music Festival will take place on April 13-15 and April 20-22. Visit Coachella.com for more information.
