If there’s one thing I look for when I’m finding new music, it’s originality. This is something that, admittedly, EDM seems to be lacking at the moment. *Insert angry comment about how your favorite artist is the most unique genius to ever exist and I don’t know what I’m talking about.*

Okay, okay, of course not every artist/song in the genre is unoriginal. In fact, it makes me happy when producers start to branch out and do something different these days. But there’s one artist of note that’s been on my radar for doing exactly that. Future bass producer Grant has become a new favorite of the Monstercat fandom in recent years with tracks like 2017’s “Are We Still Young” and “Weapon.” This week he’s graced us with an epic new trap-inspired banger “The Edge.” Joined by EDM mainstay vocalist Nevve, this is everything I wanted to hear from a new Grant song. The layered synth and rhythmic drum patterns bring this song to life, accompanied by a drop that is equal parts big and exciting while still retaining an artistic and musical integrity. Nevve delivers wholeheartedly with an absolutely mystical vocal, creating a sound that is larger than life. Most importantly, it sounds very Grant. This is a guy who can give me a song and I’ll know almost instantly that it’s his, and that’s rare these days.

Stream this track on Soundcloud below, and keep an eye out for more from Grant. I predict big things for his future.
